So 2020 was a weird year.
It only took a decade of thinking I should, and a few months of lockdown, to start this blog. And I can't thank you enough for reading. It made December incredible to have you all join me in this journey!
It started as a Sisyphean goal, since I figured if I could write an essay a day for a month, then I should be able to sear the habit into muscle memory. I’m happy to report that part worked!
Couple of things I learnt in this experiment:
- I can write a few thousands words a day by stealing time from other things - it's been around 90k words in Dec (holy f!), with an essay a day which was the goal
- Writing makes me think better and refines my ideas. Enough said.
- The internet is weird and interesting and what keeps it being weird and interesting is people creating along with consuming. Creating is fun.
- The key to success is quantity, quality and duration - the first is based on will, and the second is a function of output. The third we’ll have to see.
- Blogging anonymously with zero marketing can still be valuable - this is thanks to you !!
My personal favourites thus far:
- The Great Polarisation series, which ended up being a bit of a magnum opus - One, Two, Three, Four, Five and Six
- How size brings complexity and hierarchy creates growth tradeoffs
- And Das Glasperlenspiel of course
In 2021 I hope to do deeper dives following some similar themes and, to do that, reduce the frequency to twice a week or so.
I'd love to hear any thought or feedback that you might have, and most importantly I hope you guys join Strange Loop Canon (and bring your friends).
Happy New Year !!
