Thank you for reading!

Happy New Year!

So 2020 was a weird year.

It only took a decade of thinking I should, and a few months of lockdown, to start this blog. And I can't thank you enough for reading. It made December incredible to have you all join me in this journey!

It started as a Sisyphean goal, since I figured if I could write an essay a day for a month, then I should be able to sear the habit into muscle memory. I’m happy to report that part worked!

Couple of things I learnt in this experiment:

  1. I can write a few thousands words a day by stealing time from other things - it's been around 90k words in Dec (holy f!), with an essay a day which was the goal

  2. Writing makes me think better and refines my ideas. Enough said.

  3. The internet is weird and interesting and what keeps it being weird and interesting is people creating along with consuming. Creating is fun.

  4. The key to success is quantity, quality and duration - the first is based on will, and the second is a function of output. The third we’ll have to see.

  5. Blogging anonymously with zero marketing can still be valuable - this is thanks to you !!

My personal favourites thus far:

  1. The Great Polarisation series, which ended up being a bit of a magnum opus - One, Two, Three, Four, Five and Six

  2. How size brings complexity and hierarchy creates growth tradeoffs

  3. Why we're surrounded by adversarial systems

  4. On the weird clustering of geniuses

  5. And Das Glasperlenspiel of course

In 2021 I hope to do deeper dives following some similar themes and, to do that, reduce the frequency to twice a week or so.

I'd love to hear any thought or feedback that you might have, and most importantly I hope you guys join Strange Loop Canon (and bring your friends).
